Role profile
The Exchange is looking for an ambitious, conscientious and dynamic Sales & Marketing Manager to increase awareness of The Exchange and what we do, driving visitors to the building and helping to reach our ambitious, but achievable, sales targets. The immediate focuses will be on building markets for The Bookstore (our restaurant/deli), our craft retail offer (‘TEX’) and reaching out further with our events programme.
You will be joining The Exchange at an exciting time. We are a young and fast-developing social enterprise, that focuses on community craft and empowerment, with a growing and supportive team, and an increasing number of local and further afield supporters. The team each have our own defined areas of responsibility, usually spanning more than one key focus area, in order to deliver projects and engagement throughout the year. The Sales & Marketing role is itself interdisciplinary, looking for both sales and marketing experience and responsibility. The candidate will be able to manage more than one project at a time and be on the lookout for new opportunities for organisational growth. This is a new role for The Exchange, so the candidate must be open for the role to be shaped to the needs of the organisation.

Duties + Responsibilities:
Press & Communications
- Be the steward of The Exchange brand, ensuring all staff and volunteers involved in communications can communicate our purpose, ethos and values effectively, providing training to staff/volunteers where required
- Relationship development with local and sector press, identifying press stories and writing of press releases
- Lead on website management, ensuring brand communications delivered effectively, information is up-to-date and website functions well
- Acting as ambassador for The Exchange at any internal or external events
Marketing
- Lead on development and delivery of marketing strategies and plans across the organisation, including Bookstore, catering, retail, venue hire and events
- Lead on regular social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin) & listings marketing for The Exchange/The Bookstore, liaising with other staff and graphic designer, using volunteers where appropriate, and in line with Exchange identity
- Develop online audiences for Exchange and Bookstore social platforms, and explore the need for/introduce TEX platforms
- Lead the development of digital and printed marketing materials, alongside Graphic Designer, Operations & Events Manager and Co-Directors
- Develop marketing / social media partnerships to build reach and audience
- Lead on the creation of an organisation Image Bank, organising and delivery photoshoots where required
Sales
- Work with Co-Directors, Operations & Events Manager and Restaurant Manager to increase onsite sales, in particular Bookstore restaurant/deli and retail
- Develop online sales platforms in particular for retail and workshops
- Identify a programme for and represent The Exchange at external craft markets
- Retail buying, sourcing new products and suppliers in line with the TEX ethos
Reporting/other
- Timely monitoring and evaluation of work, reporting effectiveness of campaigns and strategies to Co-Directors, against agreed KPIs
- Effective management of annual marketing budget
- Any other duties as reasonably required
Personal specification
Essential:
- A minimum of 2 years marketing experience, ideally in a community / cultural environment
- Budget management experience and good numerical skills
- Experience of digital content & social media, including scheduling programmes such as Hootsuite
- Copywriting skills
- Solid understanding of KPIs and deriving insights for wider business reporting and actions
- Experience of working in a fast-moving environment, with an ability to handle numerous projects with competing deadlines and priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Highly organised, with good time management skills
- Self-motivated
- Adaptable, with a willingness to learn
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Computer literate – Excel, Word, Mac & Windows OS
- Experience working both independently and in a team oriented, collaborative environment
- Passion for community and culture, and a commitment to Exchange objectives
Desirable:
- Experience with a camera, or a willingness to learn
- Ability to execute, monitor and analyse campaigns
- Experience with Photoshop, Squarespace and Mailchimp
- Volunteer management experience
- Experience with design packages
- Understanding of GDPR requirements and processes
